Funeral Details: A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date

Terry Allamby, age 85, passed away on Friday, December 2nd, 2022, at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie, Ontario.  She was born in Guyana and then moved to Barbados as a child and completed her schooling there.  She met her husband David, in Barbados and they emigrated to Canada in 1956 to start their life together.  Over the years Terry and Dave lived in Toronto, Windsor, Oakville, retiring in the Kawartha Lakes, and finally settling in the community of Briar Hill in Alliston, Ontario.  During her time in Alliston Terry became quite involved in Matthews House Hospice, as a Volunteer, Fundraiser, Board member, as well as overseeing their gardens.  Eventually she moved to Barrie to continue her next chapter, where she volunteered in the Palliative care unit at RVH for eight years.  Terry loved to entertain, and her dining room table was always set for company by the season of the year. She was best known for two fish delicacies – salt fish cakes and fresh pickerel.  The meals shared at Terry’s table have created so many happy memories.  Terry was a talented gardener and could turn a simple yard into an oasis, even winning multiple awards for her lovely gardens.  She loved to travel, especially cruising, and often expressed her gratitude at being able to travel and experience the food, culture, and beauty of other countries.  Terry will be missed by her friends and family including her three children, Michelle, Dave, and Liz as well as her much-loved grandchildren, Niki, Chris, Quinn, Griff, Jack, Ryan, and Eric.  The family would like to thank the staff at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Hospice Simcoe, Matthews House, as well as the doctors, including Dr. Alex Dickson for their support and care extended to Terry.  Their compassion and kindness have made this challenging time easier to bear.  A special thank you to Peaceful Transition and Hospice for the kindness and respect you showed during her final procession, it was lovely.  A Celebration of Life will be held in early summer 2023.  If desired, donations in Terry’s memory may be made to Hospice Simcoe, or Matthew’s House.  Online memories and condolences may be made at www.peacefultransition.ca

Terry knew so many people and I am still contacting as best I can..she definitely worked magic in the gardens and it was evident in the awards she won and the knowledge she bestowed on others to help with their own gardens..

We first met Terry and David when we both moved in to Briar Hill almost 20 years ago. In fact we were next door neighbours, both moving in our brand new homes around the same time.

Terry was a wonderful person with not only green fingers but a beautiful soul. May you have everlasting peace. God bless you.

      Michael and Susan,

Thank you so much for the insight and kind words..that was quite a while ago and it was not long after my Dad passed away in 2008 that she made the move to Barrie.

Deepest condolences to Terry’s family. Terry and I were neighbours in Briar Hill. I owe my lovely garden to her talents, particularly the area between the houses. She was determined we have steps there, and of course, she was right.

We spent much time walking, she had a four mile area that we followed religiously. Jim and I got to taste her salt fish cakes, lovely. She was a fun neighbour, a lovely lady with a great sense of humour. Rest In Peace Terry.

    Hi Diane and Jim,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts..it really is comforting..I am trying to reach out to as many people as I can. She loved gardening that’s for sure and was always happy to help others with their gardens as well. Mom did live a full life and was independent right to the end, living in her Barrie condo with a beautiful view of Kempenfelt Bay only a few minutes away from us. She would regularly post on Instagram, many sunsets, sunrises and activity out on the lake.
