Paul Arthur Monkhouse

April 11, 1941 - April 3, 2021

Funeral Details: A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of beloved husband, father and grandfather Paul Arthur Monkhouse on Saturday April 3, 2021 just 8 days shy of his 80th birthday.  Paul wore many hats during his lifetime.  He worked at General Tire for many years, worked in Base Borden as a part time firefighter and was the Fire Chief of Sunnidale Township for 25 years.  Paul worked at Brinks for many years as well.  He was a proud member of the Base Borden Rod and Gun Club and the New Lowell Legion where he thoroughly enjoyed helping with the turkey shoots.  One of his biggest joys was taking his grandchildren fishing when they were young.  Dementia and Diabetes slowly stole his present but he reveled in his memories of the past.  His love for his wife Joanne (Mona) was always visible.

Paul is survived by his wife Joanne, children Thomas, Sheri (Andre) and Stephen (Nicki) and his grandchildren Zach (Victoria), Grady, Analie, Braidan and Danika, predeceased by his grandson Tosh.  He is also survived by his siblings Joan (Robert), Linda and John and many nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank the staff on 3 West at Mill Creek Care Centre for taking such good care of Paul during the final leg of his journey.

Cremation will take place and due to pandemic restrictions, a small private virtual service will be held with a Celebration of Life planned for later this year. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society in Paul’s memory would be appreciated. Thank you.

Aunt Joanne, Steve, Sheri and Thomas we are praying for you and sending love and thoughts at this time. I have some fond memories of spending time with Uncle Paul. As a child I remember visiting you in Barrie, Uncle Paul took me around with him as he ran some errands. I enjoyed tagging along with him that day and then when I brought my kids up for a visit he would get his firemen outfit out for my kids to dress up with. I enjoyed listening to his turkey shoot stories, his scuba diving adventures and his Brinks experiences. He always gave me a cheerful, hard time whenever I called to chat. He was such an awesome and fun personality. He will be missed by many but provided us all with some very good memories.

Condolences to Stephen, Sherilee (and aunt Joanne) from Rob and Anne-Marie on the loss of your dad (and husband). Uncle Paul always treated me with respect and love and, to me, was the perfect example of a loving father and husband. I am so sorry for you and your loss.

My Grandfather was a one of a kind man. We would always bicker with each other, not out of hate, but pure love. He was one of my protectors, a love of my life, and now a missing piece that will never be replaced. I love you Grandpa,

I’ll always remember up at Moms cottage when Paul first met Joanne. Took to each other right away. They went for a walk in the evening with candles to see with. Was so afraid they would burn their hands. They were together ever since. Memories.

I have not spoken to Paul in a very long time, but I remember him as a man who took no bullshit. He was strong willed, but willing to discuss opinions. He was a man more of us should strive to be. You will be missed Mr. Monkhouse.

Our thoughts and prayers go with the Monkhouse family as they adjust to life without their patriarch. Our family will miss his stories, humor and participation in joint occasions. We, also, are grateful to Paul for the care and inclusion he offered Nicki in his role of warm and caring Dad-in-law.
Love and strength to his family.

    Steve –
SO sorry to read of the loss of your Dad. It is always too soon to lose a parent! I know what Alzheimer’s can do to a person having lived through it with my mother, so I know you and your family have been living with anticipatory grief for a long time. I hope, in spite of COVID, that you are able to celebrate a life well-lived and to support one another through your bereavement.
Love to you, Nicki, and your larger family. Take care of yourselves.
    Kathy
