Peter Charles Longstaffe, age 68, of Barrie, Ontario, passed away on April 27, 2023 after a valiant battle with cancer.

Peter was born on February 16, 1955, to parents Jean and George in Barrie.  After Peter graduated from Central Collegiate, he had a 30+ year career with Canada Post.  Many Barrie residents will remember his brilliant blue eyes, warm smile and brisk gait as he delivered the mail to various neighbourhoods while working his routes.

In 1988, he met his wife Jacqueline Arksey in their shared workplace.  Love blossomed, and a pretty garden wedding followed!

In 2018, Peter retired and spent his time on favourite activities and hobbies - woodworking, camping, biking, skiing, traveling, enjoying his backyard pool and fire pit and all the neighbourhood gatherings with the Shannon Street crew.  He is remembered especially for his incredible talent in working with wood, a legacy passed on to his son.

Peter was predeceased by his parents, and brother David.  He is survived by his wife Jackie, children Bronwen Longstaffe, Brayden Longstaffe (Maddie) sister Jane Longstaffe (Sarah), and cousins Nancy Clark and Peggy Pridham.  He is mourned by a wider circle of family John (Judy) Arksey, Mike (Anne) Arksey, Kathleen (Dennis) Terry, Jude (Danny) Stewart, and many treasured nieces and nephews.  Friends, including Fred & Anne Snelleman, Lorrie & Barry Locke, the Friday Lunch Locker Room Retirees & Staff, Jackie’s Girls’ Group, and their Shannon Street neighbours (whose thoughtful help and gestures meant Peter was able to remain in his home and enjoy his gardens and pool for much of the course of his 3 year illness) will hold his memory close.

Please drop by the Columbus Hall on Friday, May 26, 2023, from 3:00-6:00 PM for an informal gathering and sharing of memories with friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice Simcoe, an organization that provided caring and compassionate end of life support to “Sweet Pete” and his family.
