Funeral Details: Private Family Arrangements

Peter passed away at Royal Victoria Regional Health Center on Sunday January 14th, 2024, after a short illness, at the age of 87.

Beloved husband of Florence for 61 years.  Beloved father of his son, the late James Lowry, and his daughter, Kate Epps (Barry).  Proud Papa of Jake and Ryan Epps.  Predeceased by his brothers, George and John, and his sister, Joan.  Survived by his brothers Edward and Douglas.  He was so loved by his many nieces and nephews.

Peter had a long and successful career in public relations.  He was the Vice President of Public Relations at Control Data Corporation for several years.  Peter had a gift and passion for writing.  He also had a passion for politics which included a lifelong affiliation to the federal and provincial Liberal parties.  Over the past years, he enjoyed producing his daily political commentary on his blog,  https://babelonthebay.com/

Anyone who experienced Peter’s hugs will never forget them.  He led with his heart and exuded great warmth.  His hardy laugh brought joy to every encounter.  He truly had a heart of gold.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Center Intensive Care Unit for their care and respect, including Tara, Dr. Stu Douglas, and Dr. Tong.

Peter volunteered tirelessly for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, serving as the National President. For anyone wishing to make a donation in honour of his memory, this would be his preferred organization.  https://mscanada.ca/

The family has made private funeral arrangements.

    To Florence, Kate and family;
    My heart goes out to you.
    There are very few memories of the Thorncliff group that don’t have Peter front and center! A personality that is larger than life, he was always there for a kind word and of course a laugh.
    He will truly be missed.
    Much Love Sue, Rob, Angela, Charlie, Taylor & Jordan

    Hard to believe that Peter is gone. We have had many interesting conversations over a glass or two of wine/beer. We spent New Year’s with them at our place just a few weeks ago. When my husband was in hospital a few weeks ago, Peter and Florence had ordered enough Chinese food for the three of us when I got home from the emergency ward. He was a good friend and will be missed very much. R.I .P. You will be sorely missed by many.

    Dear Florence and family. I was so saddened to hear of Peter’s sudden passing. He was a gentleman in the true sense of the word and will be greatly missed. His smile lit up the room when he entered and he always had a great story for everyone. I had the pleasure of joining both of you for our building get togethers through the past few years . Florence I hope that your many years of happy memories will help to get you through the difficult journey you are now on. Hugs from Carol Graham

    Florence: I have so many wonderful memories of our time together. Thank goodness nothing can take those away. I found this photo of Peter from our Tobin Island days and thought you would like to see it. Oh, what a great dimple he has!
    Much love always,
    Nita

    I’ve just heard about Peter’s passing after being informed of the post on his blog informing everyone. I’m the head admin guy of Progressive Bloggers, which Peter and Babel-On-The-Bay was an affiliate of for quite awhile. We syndicated his posts on our site (which is an aggregate site for like minded blogs), and that helped his blog reach a bigger audience.

    We will miss Peter and his prolific writing! My sympathies to his family.
