Randolph Grant Smith

It is with great sadness the family of Randy Smith announce that he started his journey to the spirit world on September 1, 2026 .

Randy was born on August 10, 1951, in Parry Sound, Ont.  He was predeceased by his parents; Sylvia Julia Smith (née Stevens) and Gordon Henry Smith.

Randy is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Alberta Smith (née Sopher).

He was a devoted father to Melanie Smith (Steve), the late Trevor Smith (Wanetta), and Matt Smith (Michelle).

Bumpa’s pride and joy are his four grandchildren, he had a special relationship with each of them and will be missed dearly by Tyler Renaud (Ocean), Alisha Smith (Ben), Jacob Renaud (Natasha), and Makayla Smith (Mason).

Randy grew up in a large family with twelve children.  He grew up close to his siblings and Sunday dinner and cards with them was weekly.

Randy was predeceased  by his brothers Jerry Smith ( Yvonne),  Darwin Smith,  Jim Smith, Rick Smith and his sisters Holly Smith, Shelly Smith.

Randy is survived by brothers Donald Smith, Kelly Smith (Donna), Mark Smith and sisters Heather Emberley (the late Dave), and  Angela Smith (Stan).

Randy always made time for his many nieces and nephews.  After his  3 children were adults, he helped his wife raise 2 more. His nephews Charles and Ryan Smith were lucky to have him as a father figure, Randy loved them like his own.

Randy will be missed by so many of his in-law’s who shared many memories with him over the 57 years.

Randy met the love of his life, Alberta, when he was just 15 years old and they started dating a year later.  They were married in 1969 and started welcoming their children soon after.

Growing up in a small town, hockey was a big part of Randy’s life.  He passed the love of hockey and “The Bay” onto his kids and grandkids.  We will always cherish the memories made camping on the Bay with him.

Randy’s family takes comfort knowing he has been reunited with his son, mom and everyone he loved who went to the spirit world before him.

There is no word in Ojibway for “good-bye”. It doesn’t exsist because we know we will see each other again one day.
