Robert Osburne Irwin

October 3, 1944 - January 20, 2026

Funeral Details:

On January 20, 2026, peacefully, in his 82nd year.

Beloved husband and soulmate of Louise.  Devoted and loving father to Kristine Irwin and David Irwin (Keri West).

Son of Osburne and Dorothy Irwin.  Cherished brother of Jane Patterson (Peter), loving uncle to Thomas, Eric (Madison), and great-uncle to Oliver.

Dear brother-in-law to Wayne (Jan), Marion (Dave) and Fred (Mardi), and uncle to many nieces and nephews, whom he adored.

Fondly remembered and deeply missed by his many students, colleagues, and friends from Barrie Central Collegiate.

A man of great wit, curiosity, and kindness, Bob delighted in storytelling and the sharing of cherished memories. He carried a lifelong passion for the natural world and a deep love of hockey, both of which inspired and enriched his life.

Bob now rests in the sunshine, forever surrounded by the warmth of those he loved.

A private reception will be held at a later date.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the professional staff, physicians, and nurses at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre for their compassionate care.

If desired, memorial donations in Bob’s name may be made to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre and would be greatly appreciated by the family.

    Sorry for your loss. He was a good guy. Linda and he used to joke about being born 10 days apart in 1944. They started together at Barrie Central so had a long time as colleagues . Last time we saw him was at the Lillow function in 2024.- Lee Davis /Linda McConnell 6 Feb/26

    Dearest Louise, Kristine, Dave, Keri, and loved ones within your circle ~
    Holding all of you in my heart and prayers. It is heart-breaking to know of the loss of your beloved Bob. May all of you be surrounded by much love and care at this most tender time. Anytime we gathered together for Thanksgiving it was such a nourishing experience to be in Bob’s presence. He was always so warm, kind, and welcoming. I can only begin to imagine the phenomenal breadth of influence he had on countless lives.

    Both Don and I have very fond memories of Bob from Barrie Central days. He was a fine man. So sorry for your loss.
