Robert Patrick Ryan

October 30, 1920 – August 30, 2019

Robert (Bob) Patrick Ryan passed away peacefully at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie with family at his side in his 99th year on Friday, August 30, 2019.

He was predeceased earlier this year by Edla Annie Ryan (nee Crilly), the love his life for 73 years.

Also predeceased by 8 of his nine siblings – Leo Ryan, Geraldine Young, Peter Ryan, Ed Ryan, Chris Ryan, Roy Ryan, George Ryan, Helen Dufraine and survived by sister Gail August.

Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, loved and cherished by sons Brett (Linda), Dean (Lynn), and Craig (Jo) and his daughter Jill LaPlante (Noel). He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his grandchildren Carly, Blair (Peter), Ryan (Laura), Mallory, Luke, Jade, Ethan, Alison, and Shane (Holly).

Bob was a proud veteran who loved to share stories of his experiences as an RCAF radar technician during his time in England and Egypt during World War II.

Work included a 38 year career with the Ford Motor Company in Windsor and Brampton and a number of years at Butcher Engineering following his retirement from Ford.

At home he was a “jack of all trades” devoting a great deal of time to DIY projects large and small. He loved music and enjoyed playing, listening and dancing to the big band sound. He loved to drive and he and Edla logged many miles travelling to visit family and friends.

He was a family man who valued staying connected with his Windsor roots and appreciated calls and visits made to “Uncle Bob and Aunt Edla’s”. He treasured time spent with his immediate family, especially his grandchildren, sharing meals, playing games and telling stories. He enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino ever hopeful that he would win big and share his good fortunes with them.

Many thanks for the gentle and thoughtful care provided by the dedicated PSW’s, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, and to Dr Murdoch. With their support it was possible for Bob to continue to enjoy a happy and comfortable life as a “nonagenarian”.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to:

What a loss to your family and to the world. His humour, gentleness, and loving commitment are my strongest memories of him. And if course the smiles both he and Edla brought to my patents’ faces. If my mother Rita could, she would be giving all of you hugs right now.
