Susan Ann Gray (née Friend)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Susan Ann Gray (née Friend), a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt and friend.

Born on July 4, 1947, Sue was born and raised in Toronto’s West End, where she built a life defined by determination, compassion, family, and an unwavering love of sports.

Sue spent her entire professional career with Eastman Kodak Canada, where she was a trailblazer in her field earning her CEBS designation in her early 40's, and became one of the first women to break the glass ceiling in her workplace. Her strength, intelligence, and determination opened doors and paved the way for others who followed.

Her compassion extended well beyond her career. In her early twenties, Sue devoted her time to running a youth drop-in centre, offering guidance, friendship, and a safe place for young people struggling to find their way. Helping others, particularly young people, was something she did with genuine care and without seeking recognition.

Sue was also a passionate sports fan. She loved both hockey and baseball, she was a devoted fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Toronto Blue Jays. Golf was another great passion, she became a talented golfer. She was especially proud of achieving three holes-in-one, a remarkable accomplishment that reflected both her skill and competitive spirit.

Above all else, Sue cherished her family. She was a loving mother to Beverley McLeish (Bill) and Todd Gray (Kelley), and was an amazing grandmother to Katelyn (Caleb), J.J., Jonah, Kiah (Saruka), Jacob, Victoria (Andreas), Samantha (Jaymond), and Bill Jr. Her family was her greatest source of pride and joy, and the memories she created with them will be treasured forever.

Sue was predeceased by her beloved husband, Kenneth Douglas Gray (Doug), who passed away on September 7, 2009, and her sister, Joan Binns (January 25, 2024).

She will be laid to rest alongside her husband and her parents at Park Lawn Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2027, providing family and friends an opportunity to come together to remember Sue, share stories, celebrate her life, and honour the lasting impact she had on those who knew and loved her.

Sue will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
