It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Sydney Garwood Burlock (Papa). After a brief battle with cancer, he passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 16th, 2022.

Dear husband and best friend of Lynda Burlock (nee Lloyd). Survived by his three sons: Steven (Karen), Michael (Laura) and Brian. His eleven grandchildren: McLean, Brooke, Courtney, Megan, Emma, Josh, Alex, Mackenzie, Madison, Ryan and Sarah. Also survived by brother Charles (Joyce), sisters Sharon and Ann. Predeceased by parents Sydney Garwood Burlock and Georgia Burlock and sister Valerie Reynolds.

Sydney joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1964 and served for 33 years as a medic in the military. After retirement, Syd and Lynda enjoyed spending their winters for 20 years in Yuma Arizona where they made many friends and memories. Syd made friends who introduced him to and shared his favourite hobby and passion for metal detecting. Summers were spent here in Canada camping, visiting with family, friends and grandchildren while connecting and talking around the campfire. Syd (Papa) was a kind, loving and generous person with an amazing spirit and an incredible sense of humour. He touched everyone who knew him with his kindness and generosity.

He will be greatly missed. But as Syd always said “the sun always comes up the next day!”

    Lynda & family,
We were saddened beyond measure to hear of your beloved husband, father & grandfather’s passing. He was such a great man to know and to be around. He had such a wonderful sense of humor. We had so hoped that we’d get to see you both one more time, but that was not to be. Just know that he didn’t have to suffer very long and that he is in a land where no pain exists. May you be comforted knowing that we both send you much love and tons of hugs. Love and Prayers, Vic & Joyce HAPE

I am so sorry that Uncle Garwood has passed. I do take some solace in knowing that he’s no longer in pain and no longer suffering. He’s probably getting his ears talked off by my Mom…his sister who adored him. I will be forever greatful to Uncle Garwood for he was the last person to speak to my Mom the night before she passed away. She died a happy woman having spoken to her brother. I am grateful also for the time I did get to have with him. I didn’t often hear my dad tell me that he was proud of me, but Uncle Garwood made sure that I knew how proud he was of me for taking care of my Mom in her last years. May God Bless you all as you grieve the loss of a great father and a great human being.
