Thomas Vincent Wood

June 7, 1952 - April 20, 2023

Funeral Details: May 12, 2023 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Royal Canadian Legion Branch #385 (105 Industrial Pkwy. North, Aurora, On.,)

Tom (Thomas) Vincent Wood

June 1952 - April 2023

Our beloved Tom left us suddenly, but peacefully at home on April 20, 2023.

Adored and deeply missed by his wife, Paula, of nearly 46 years, daughters, Aaryn (Sergio), Amanda (Rob), Abby (Phil) and grandchildren, Audrey, Miguel, and Levi. Also survived by loving siblings, Carolyn (Paul), twin brother Joe (Deborah), Bill (Lori), Cathy (Paul), Greg (Susan), John (Lisa), Cindy (Steven), his aunt, Bernice, many nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law. Predeceased by his cherished son, Adam, his parents, Bob and Marge, and brother, Mike.

Born in Toronto, Tom lived and worked most of his life in Aurora, Ontario, surrounded by family. He was a man with a giant heart and a gentle soul whose kindness was unmatched. Although quiet, Tom was no wallflower and reveled in a good old fashioned Wood family bash.

He took pride in his work and believed that whatever you do, do it well, and that he did! He was a meticulous and skilled craftsman—there was nothing Tom couldn’t build or fix. At 70, he showed no sign of slowing down and he worked right up until the day he left this world.

His genuine curiosity made him the ultimate treasure hunter. He had a knack for “salvaging” and was an environmentalist long before it was mainstream. When he wasn’t on the hunt for salvaged goods, he could be found trapping squirrels (his nemesis) in the backyard, or in his boat chasing the elusive muskie in lakes across Ontario. He enrolled many of his loved ones in his passion for fishing and delighted in "taking them out in the boat”.

Tom was a lover of hockey (GO LEAFS GO), baseball, tennis, lacrosse, snowmobiles, ratchets, and fast cars. He was a connoisseur of butter tarts, hot sauce, and believed that everything could be made better with ketchup!

Tom’s true passion was his family. His deep love and pride for his children, grandchildren and wife were his lifeblood.

Tom made you a better person just by being around him. His mark on our hearts will never be forgotten.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday May 12, 2023, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. with memories being shared at 2:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #385 (105 Industrial Pkwy. North, Aurora, On.,)

Arrangements entrusted to Peaceful Transition York (2-15236 Yonge St., Aurora, On.,)

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made directly to Heart & Stroke or The Nature Conservancy.

My deepest condolences to my dear friends Paula, Aaryn, Amanda, Abby, and their families on the passing of this very dear man. I will always remember Tom as a kind and gentle man. To many people, Tom would be thought of as a quiet man. To me, he was always thoughtful and respectful. Whenever I was visiting at the house in the afternoon, he would come in from work, immediately go upstairs to shower and change, and then come back down for a quick visit.  He always asked me how my mother was doing and said to be sure to say hello to her. One of my favourite memories of Tom is watching him at the annual Wood Family Christmas Open House. He would be working diligently and methodically in the kitchen, heating up new hors d’oeuvres to bring out to the table. I will always picture him with his trusty tea towel flung over his shoulder for quick access, carrying out the next batch of newly warmed-up hors d’oeuvres. It was easy to tell when there was a fishing trip coming up because Tom would have all of his fishing equipment including numerous rods, tackle boxes, as well as his fishing clothes, spread out on the front porch for inspection weeks in advance. It made me laugh when Paula called it Tom’s fishing luggage. I think he enjoyed the weeks of prepping as much as the actual fishing trip.  Tom will be dearly missed by all who knew him and will always be in my heart and in my memories. Big hugs and lots of love, Janice
