Victor Broughton Foster, 84, of Barrie, died January 13, 2025, peacefully at home.
He was born on December 15, 1940, to Victor and Jean in Blyth, England.
Victor is survived by his wife, Virginia; his children, Jon (Carol), Neil (Andrea), Julie (Denel), Scott; his grandchildren, Michael, Luke, Ruby, Alaina, Ethan, Noah, Benjamin, Ezekiel, Blaise; his great grandson, Mason; and his sister, Pamela.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Gus and Sean; and his son, Adam.
Born during World War II, Victor spent his early years living with his grandmother. The son of a Navy veteran, he joined the Royal Air Force as soon as he was of age, working as a telegraphist and serving his country for 12 years before moving on to civilian life and starting a family.
He had a number of jobs throughout his life in a variety of roles, but truly found his calling as a massage therapist, where he was able to ease people's pain and to help them heal. As he moved towards semi-retirement and had more time, Victor found he really enjoyed taking care of the garden, with his ever-expanding pond at one house, and his award-winning rose gardens at the next.
Victor had a strong Christian faith and lived it every day; it was his guide in raising his family and in every decision he made. He loved sharing his faith through deep conversations with old friends, through his regular social media posts, and through his actions in everyday life. Kindness was the Christian value he best represented for his family, his friends, and his community. As a parent and grandparent, he stepped up daily and loved deeply. He was not a man of many words, but he was not scared of expressing love through action with hugs or a squeeze of the hand. His volunteer work was often behind the scenes and in supportive roles, with a focus on getting the job done to best meet needs rather than seeking acknowledgment of his contributions.
He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on in those that were lucky enough to know him. To be part of his family is truly a blessing.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials or donations be made to RVH https://www.rvh.on.ca , Youth Haven https://youthhaven.ca or the Barrie Food Bank https://www.barriefoodbank.org
