Walter James Butler

Funeral Details: A private memorial service will be held in July for immediate family.

Walter James Butler, 75, of King, Ontario, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025.

Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Walter was the cherished son of Walter and Eliza Butler. Following in his father’s footsteps, Walter built a lifelong career hauling heavy machinery across North America. He took great pride in his work, which allowed him to see the vast landscapes of the continent and meet people from all walks of life.

For all that knew him, Walter was a free spirit with an unmatched gift for storytelling. Whether recounting his adventures on the road or sharing colorful tales from his travels, he had a way of captivating everyone he met with his stories. Even a brief encounter with Walter left a lasting impression on many.

Outside of work, Walter embraced life with a light-hearted approach, full of enthusiasm and curiosity. He spent many hours tending to his yard, often in the company of friends, sharing stories and laughter. In his younger years, he was passionate about scuba diving, eager to explore the world beneath the waves. As he grew older, he found comfort in quieter moments, often enjoying his favorite TV and Movie series alongside his beloved wife.

Walter is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Daphne Tracey Butler; his brother and sister, Bruce and Laurel; his children, Jason, Courtney, and Candice; his grandchildren, Ryley, Justin, Jordan, Alicia, and Jessica; and his great-grandchildren, Lorenzo and Lukas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eliza and Walter Sr.; his brother, Keith, and the many friends he made over the years who welcome him with open arms.

A private memorial service will be held in July for immediate family. Walter will be returning to his birth home, British Columbia, where he will be laid to rest in Sidney, as he requested. Those who wish to pay their respects or share memories of Walter are invited to contact Daphne Butler for further details.

Walter’s warmth, wit, and wanderlust will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. May the many memories and stories he shared live on in us all.
