I will always remember when I was so young Wayne and Flo when you came over to play games with my parents would ALWAYS bring us smarties. Wayne was always so fun, laughing and having an amazing time. Always called me Jenny and the fun pool parties, running through the rose bush. You will be missed so very much Wayne. Xo

You held my hand when I was small, you caught me when I fell.
You’re the hero of my childhood, and many later years as well.

Every time I think of you my heart still fills with pride, though I’ll always miss you Grandpa I know you’re by my side. In laughter and in sorrow, in sunshine and through rain I know your watching over me until we meet again. ❤️

In loving memory of my Grandfather Wayne Dament

When I was very young, and family events brought us all together, I recall Wayne loving to entertain with Flo, bbqing, and seeing family and friends for a meal. Something about the bushy brows and beard always scared me, and I think he played off of that often – but it didn’t take me long to realize it was a front, and that he had a warm and inviting heart.

Wayne fought so many battles with courage; silent, never making excuses or complaining, and always fighting for one more day – one more adventure. While he fought, something I admired about Wayne was his focus on experiencing all he could, taking advantage of every moment he had. I’ll miss our talks; he had a genuine curiousness and attentiveness that made you feel special every time you did.

I also appreciate Wayne for being there for my own mom, before my time and after, when she lost her father. She always spoke and speaks of Wayne in the highest possible regard, as I know he was there for her when it mattered most.

Wayne was strong, courageous, loving and caring. I will honour and cherish his memory by striving for the same from within myself. He will live on in the hearts of anyone who knew him, making us all better for it.

    RIP Uncle Wayne.

Wayne, what an awesome man. So courageous battling to the bitter end. Never wanting to give in at any point, never complaining and always concerned about others and wanting to make sure they were taken care of before himself.
I will truly miss our numerous Nascar trips. We were so fortunate to be able be at the 50th anniversary of the Daytona 500, the 50th anniversary of the Coke a Cola 600 in North Carolina, and the 50th running of the Dover race. Not to mention our multiple trips to Michigan speedway.
The nascar trips will never be the same without you Wayne.
Wayne always enjoyed coming to the cottage. He was always looking to help with various projects whether it was cutting the grass, cleaning out carburators on the toys or re-jigging the snow plow on the four wheeler.
There will be a void in all the lives of those of us that knew and loved him.
RIP my friend….your pain and silent suffering our now over.

It is with a very heavy heart that we send this note. After 45 years of wonderful memories with Wayne it is indeed difficult to pinpoint one specific memory over another which created the greatest impact. we must however highlight our first meeting as recent immigrants to Canada – and a chance meeting in our apartment laundry room led to an invitation to dinner at Wayne’s place. Perfect strangers to them – we thought …who does this? But that was just the start.

We went on to share the best social events from pool parties to pig roasts….our card nights …memories of playing Lost Heir and Wayne’s patience and good humour in enduring George as a partner which invariably meant he would lose!

Also remembering our return to Canada after an extended absence. Flo and Wayne opened their doors to us again and graciously hosted us and our children until we resettled. All of which begs the question ….how do you keep those fine characteristics alive when this great nature has left us? To this, I would say look no further than his family. We saw first hand how Flo nursed Wayne to the very end. We saw how their children and grandchildren were also a constant support. You have left us…but what a legacy you have left behind! Sadly missed…George and Noelene

It is with a very heavy heart that I write this note. Where do I start? What can I say? Wayne – you have been a wonderful neighbor and a true best friend to me, George and our girls. Your generosity of spirit shone though from the time of our first and chance meeting in the laundry room at Rajah. We had only recently moved from Ireland and in the course of conversation we were invited to your house for dinner. To you and Flo we were perfect strangers – what a gesture – who does this we thought! As our family friendship developed, we learned this generosity of spirit was simply commonplace – just natural – nothing unusual for Wayne or for Flo.

Over the years we enjoyed many more dinners together – remembering that pig roast, the many barbecues, the pool parties and the Lost Heir games when Wayne would patiently endure George as his partner only to inevitably lose all of the time! We shared in your family festivities and you shared in ours. In many ways we were a pretty perfect match.

I remember too when we returned to Canada after an extended stay in Ireland and we were again welcomed into the Dament household. We could stay as long as we needed – no pomp or ceremony – just a genuine welcoming. I have often thought what will happen to those fine qualities when Wayne passes but I need wonder no longer because Wayne left a rich legacy. This is seen in his children and in his grandchildren – Deanna and Ashley tending to Wayne to the end, and the other grandchildren spending time with Flo to ease the burden of the loss. Wayne we will miss you tremendously but we will always be reminded of your generous spirit in the legacy that you have left behind.

Sadly missed – George and Noelene Mahon and the girls.

Uncle Wayne, We will miss you so very much, you were always happy and smiling even though you have been fighting for you life for 20 years! You have shown all of us what perseverance, determination, and a positive out look in life can accomplish! You fought very long and a very hard and you lived each day to it’s fullest you didn’t waste a moment. You went to Dayton 500, you meet so many Nascar drivers and you drove a Nascar you were filling your bucket list and then some. You introduced us to camping again and it brought our families together and we have had many, many great weekends camping. We love you and we will miss you dearly. R.I.P. until we meet again! oxoxo ❤️Love always, Christine, Rob and boys.
