Funeral Details:

William (Bill) Harold McGuire at the age of 81 passed away on Apirl 16 2022, at home after a courageous battle with cancer with the loving support of his daughter Susan and 4 granddaughters  Juels, Cassidy, Katie and Crystal. In true Bill fashion, he never gave up and stayed strong fighting right to the very end!

He is predeceased by his parents Joseph McGuire and Julie Cameron and siblings Joseph McGuire (Irene), George McGuire (Christine), Johnny McGuire (Peggy), Patricia Wallace (Alex) and Betty Pritchard (Harold). He is survived by his sister Carol Thurlow (Charles).

Bill is predeceased by his wife and life partner of 35 years Alva Phillips whom he loved and respected dearly. Bill was blessed to have a companion in Ella Bell for the past 10 years and she will miss him dearly.

When asked what he wished for his legacy to be, Bill expressed that he wanted to be known as a fair man and a good father to his children. Susan McGuire, Norton McGuire (Irma), Keith McGuire (Christine), Michael McGuire (Darlene), Billy McGuire (Doris), Paul McGuire, John Phillips (Kathe), Dewayne Phillips (Marjorie), Jamie Phillips (Heather) and David Hammond. He was the loving grandfather to 22 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Bill appreciated and loved his in-laws, the entire Hammond family.

Bill was an avid fisherman, a loyal fan of the Blue Jays and the Leafs, he was a champion dart player and would love to bet on horse races. He will be most remembered for his charismatic personality, quick wit and crude yet hilarious sense of humor. Bill kept an open-door policy to his family and always rooted for the underdog. Born and raised in the Cabbagetown district of Toronto during the depression, Bill is a true testament that with hard work, persistence, and determination you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to Dr. Marianne Belau for all her exceptional care. She truly went above and beyond. The entire oncology team at RVH and Bayshore are recognized for all of their care during his cancer journey. A very special thank you to Registered nurse Nadia with Bayshore homecare services, laughter truly is the best medicine and you brought so many laughs during such a difficult time.

Bill will be laid to rest at Civic Memorial Cemetery in Sudbury, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, Bill had asked that donations be made to the Army Navy of Canada, Royal Canadian Legion www.legion.ca   or the Canadian Cancer Society www.cancer.ca  , all donations are greatly appreciated by the family.

My condolences to Ella and Bill’s Family. It made my heart sad when I heard about Bill’s passing. He was the captain of the first dart team I ever played on. It’s because of him being so kind, caring and patient that I am still playing. Whenever I throw for the double one I look at my darts and say his name. I will miss you Bill.

An awesome example of a good, decent, hard-working, straight-shooting human being. I am sure he will be badly missed. But I am sure, he will continue to watch over all of you.

Deepest condolences to the family, I met Bill and Alva when the purchased Al’s Pizza in Bracebridge Ontario and named it Bill’s Pizza. Bill and Alva worked very hard to have a successful business. The Pizza was absolutely the best in town. I would go to Bill’s Pizza when I was younger for birthdays and then I started working for them. As I worked for them, I became family, Bill, I wish you peace and fly high with your angel Alva.
