Douglas Wayne Hillock

May 4, 1948-September 16, 2018

On Sunday, September 16th, unexpectedly at home in his 70th year, Douglas Wayne Hillock passed away.  A loving husband, son, brother, step-father, uncle and friend, it is with a heavy heart we say goodbye to a wonderful man.  Survived by his wife Judy, brothers David and Raymond, Sister Jean, step-children Julie, Lisa, Laura and Evan, nieces, nephews and beloved friends.  Born on Rosafe farm in Brampton, Ontario and then a graduate of Banting Memorial High School in Alliston, Doug went on to pursue a life-long career in carpentry.

A true craftsman and heart of gold, Doug loved spending time with friends, family and surrounding himself in nature.  With a smile that would light up any room and a warm, loving personality, it was easy to see why Doug attracted so many life-long friends.  Devoted to his craft, Doug was an extremely hard-working man, but always made time to help friends and family out with their home projects, mentoring others to become diy'ers.   Always willing to help out those in need, Doug was a caring soul always putting others before himself.

Taken too soon, we will always remember the joy Doug brought to all of us and the love we will carry in our hearts forever.

    We miss Doug every day.
Coffee Club at McDonalds in the mornings before work and off to work with Stan or Rod or a job on his own. Checking in by phone in the evenings to talk over what they had done that day or what they would do tomorrow.
He was like part of the family. Our Grand kids called him “Uncle Doug”
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
May God strengthen them through this difficult time.

The philosopher Albert Pine wrote, “What we do for ourselves in this life dies with us; what we do for others, and the world, will live forever. ” Doug touched so many lives and so many people are better for having known him. We only got to know Doug over the last few months but we will never forget him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Judy, and his family.

    In memory of Douglas Hillock

    Death,when it comes
    leaves a terrible void
a friend who was with us
    now gone

    and the turmoil it brings
    remembering things
    the pain of it
    goes on and on

oh why do we hurt ourselves so
we feel that we just have to know
what went on in that mind
of a friend who was kind
a friend we did not want to go

but our grieving is something they say
that one day will all go away
    so until that day comes
    and sad memories numb
we pray that good memories stay

    rest in peace Doug.

We are so sorry we cannot attend the celebration of his life because we are still out of the country. We are deeply saddened to hear that he is gone from our lives. Without exaggeration we say that he was the most generous, reliable, positive, skilled, hard-working, honest, considerate and generous man we have ever met – a rare gem in his line of work. He was one of the most resourceful, helpful, skilled, fearless, well rounded home renovation experts we had ever had the pleasure of working with and certainly one of the most decent human beings. We will miss him dearly. Our thoughts are with his wife and other family.

Dave, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your twin brother . I fondly remember those walks to school or the bus, so many years ago and finally had it figured out how to tell you apart by the grey patch in that dark head of hair. My condolences to you and all your family.
