Namju and I will greatly miss Joe’s presence at our house. After over 40 years of friendship, it’s hard to imagine him not spontaneously riding up the driveway on his motorcycle. He was one of the most faithful, honest friends one could wish for. My mother and Joe also shared a very special friendship. For this reason I share this photo where Joe and Sally express a moment of spontaneous joy on her 80th birthday. Andrea, Alex and Adam know that the many friends of Joe are also friends of yours. We love you.

Andrea we are so sorry for your loss. When we talked with Joe at Robs moms funeral he told us of his battle and we prayed with him. We’re so glad he actually had more time with you then he thought he would. He was always making us laugh and I know this picture would bring up wonderful memories for him. It was his friends doing a skit at one of our winter youth retreats. Art Enns, Rob Ens, Dale Beacham, Thom Braun & Jeff Voth. Our prayer for you is that The Father would comfort you and watch over you. That His peace would sustain you through the difficult moments moving forward. Love from Art & Bev

My heart is so sad for all of you Andrea. I can’t even imagine what you and your Boys are going thru. Whenever I saw Joe, he was always full of so much life and had a huge smile. He always said how much he loved Rob’s or my parties. Rob was always the life of the party as well. He will be so missed. Please know you’re in my prayers and I hope to see you one of these days soon. It seems so bizarre not being able to go and see you and say goodbye to Joe with all of us together where you feel our love. Just know you’re in our hearts and sending you much love and prayers.

When I think about Joe, I think about a person whose spirit expressed exuberance, joy, and spark. It came out of his eyes, it peppered his speech, and it was infectious. You often left his company with a memory of his smile, his laugh, his joie de vivre.

To the extent that we can perceive eternity from here, I’m pretty sure I can hear him laughing right now…I’m fairly certain he is still the life of the party. God bless you Joe. Thanks so much for showing us joy.

    Andrea, Alex and Adam,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I have known Joseph via the design community since 2007. He was such a vibrant and fun guy to be around and a pleasure to work with. I will miss our “catch ups” on life and tales of his cruise ship adventures. He will be missed but not forgotten. Hoping all the many memories you have give you a sense of peace and a smile during this difficult time.

Memories of Joe, always gregarious, always smiling, always with infectious enthusiasm. Hope that his spirit thrives in your hearts. I know that it will in mine. Fond memories of a special and unique husband, father and friend. Joe’s was a life well lived though taken much too early. You are all in my heart. Peace and grace and love. Veronica

    Andrea, Alex and Adam,

Philippe and I are so sorry to hear of your loss Andrea, Alex and Adam.
We met you, Andrea, and Joe at Rob and Namju’s yearly summer evening dinners in July – a coming together of deep friendships and for sure I remember Joe as having a wonderful sense of humour.
I am touched by what Rob Ens put in his condolence message: “He was one of the most faithful, honest friends one could wish for.”
Such a treasured statement for you, Andrea, and your family to take forward in life and as you surround yourself with family and friends.

Joe was such a good friend to me. Whenever I was in his presence, smiles were frequent, big questions were pursued and adventures were always sought after. In the winter of 2012, I was snowboarding near his home and he called to check in on me. I told him where I was and he was quick to join me. Here’s what I posted on FB that day with the picture of him on the slopes.

“My good friend Joseph Mitterhauser was brave enough to strap on my snowboard and give it a whirl. He was able to walk away with only a slight limp.”

Over the years knowing him, I’ve sensed that he was one of the bravest souls I’ve known. In true Joseph style he always pushed back when I told him that I saw him that way. During his fight with cancer, over these last few years, he manifested a whole new level of bravery.

To Andrea, Adam & Alex – my prayers are with you and for you.
